Weight loss without workouts – is it possible?

An unpopular opinion about weight loss:

Many people start their weight loss journey by doing two things at once: changing their diet and hitting the gym hard — hoping for quick results.

And let me say it right away — movement is absolutely important for health!

But… intense workouts aren’t always the best idea at the start of weight loss.

If your goal is to shed extra kilos, then your top priority should be nutrition.

Once your body starts to release excess weight, then strength training can come into play.

For those dealing with overweight or obesity, I usually recommend starting with gentle movement — walking, swimming, or yoga.

Why avoid strength workouts initially? Because they can increase hormones like cortisol and testosterone, which may slow down fat loss.

So first we lighten the load, then we build strength.

This is actually great news for anyone who doesn’t like working out:

Weight loss starts in the kitchen, not the gym.
